We help the most vulnerable and poorest children in Kenya by providing a loving home,
education and rehabilitation programmes.
We ensure that every penny raised from donations and sponsors is spent on care and
development of children.
KCC in the Community
HELPING DESTITUTE CHILDREN TO SURVIVE AND PROGRESS
Most Kenyans live on less than £1 a day and struggle to survive. The poorest people
often live in slums where life is very harsh.
We have day centres in three slums at Madharau, Umoja and Kivulini. We provide day
care, meals, health checks, clothing and nursery education for 200 children as well
as support for their families. This enables the mothers or guardians to earn from
casual work and buy food or medicine for their family. There are no maternity benefits
or pensions so we also feed young mums and old folk.
We liaise with community elders and employ members of the slum as helpers. The results
have been fantastic. Children grow strong and healthy, learn to socialise and get
a great start at primary school.
Education provides the most effective route out of poverty for young people. We reach
beyond our centres and give grants to deprived children in poor communities so they
can attend school, vocational training or University.
They are encouraged to socialise and make new friends. This experience helps them
when they embark on their future life. Their progress is monitored by our social
workers and where necessary we provide additional tuition and counselling after school.
The children are highly motivated to do well in class or arts or sports. Our goal
is to give them academic and life skills that will enable them to get employment
and have a secure independent future. The children are benefiting hugely from the
grants and achieving excellent results.
